On endless tours with Molly Hatchet, Doc Holliday, Atlanta Rythm Section as well as Golden Earring, Wishbone Ash and the Little River Band the boys around lead vocalist Georg Bayer have acquired the reputation to be the hottest Southern Rock act on this sideof the Atlantic Ocean. read more »
In 1991 the 'Rock and Roll Refugees' album (recorded in Dublin/Georgia) came out, but the band split during the recording sessions for the second album. Georg Bayer and Bruce Brookshire of 'Doc Holliday' then formed the 'Borderline' project, which featured the two ex-Whitesnake guitarists Mickey Moody and Bernie Marsden. With 'Line Up' the project had some succès d'estime but the band never appeared on stage.
To finally be back on stage again and to satisfy the constant demand for LIZARD, the band was brought back to life in 1995. With Christoph Berner and Volker Doerfler on guitars, Klaus Brosowski on keyboards, Andy Kemmer on bass and Helmut Kipp on drums Georg succeeded to form a dream-come-true lineup which one month later had a sensational first gig at the Biker-Festival in Sinsheim/Germany in front of 4.000 people.
After several club-gigs and open-airs (e.g. the Harley Davidson Jamboree in Berlin-Biesenthal) the band opened for George Thorogood on his '95 Germany tour.
In 1996 LIZARD joined the Olympia-Train touring all over Germany for 2 months. 35 gigs in 33 days plus some additional TV- and radio shows made this tour one of the hardest ever played by a german band.
Several club-gigs and a tour with their old friends from Molly Hatchet folowed, not giving a longer rest for the band. On new year's eve, december 31st 1996 the band was playing open-air in berlin close to the Brandenburger Tor at 20 degrees (celcius) below zero - absolutely live! Meanwhile the band found found its way to the studio to record a CD-single including three songs as well as adding new songs to the repertoire.
One of the highlights in 1997 was the opening of some shows for Manfred Mann's Earth Band alongside a lot of club- and festival dates.
In april 1998, on a high-point of their playing, LIZARD recorded some shows which came out on the album 'Live'. Containing eleven songs, including 6 originals of the band and a burning eleven-minutes-verion of Gregg Allman's 'Dreams' this albumreflects LIZARD's huge live-power
and stage-presence.
In 1999 the band continued to play numerous gigs, among them touring with Zakk Wylde and opening for Eric Burdon and Jethro Tull.
In early 2000 Lizard toured together with Doc Holliday in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Further song writing and rehearsals followed as well as opening shows e.g. for the southern rock legend Lynyrd Skynyrd. The recording sessions for new studio album 'Southern Steel' started in fall 2000. It was released in April 2001. Many many gigs followed throughout 2001. The Climax, of course, was the Europe-Tour 2002 together with our friends from Doc Holliday.
